Certification statuses and what they mean
1. Certified: the individual is in their current renewal cycle (GMS(T)), or the individual is in their current renewal cycle AND has an active membership (CRP).
Example: Today is 4/1/2025, the individual is a member, and their expiration date is 7/31/2025.
2. Expired: the individual did not remit their renewal fee before the expiration date (whether they have the required credits or not). In this status, you are not eligible to use the designation on any media, platform, or in signatures.
Example: Today is 9/1/2025 and the individual's expiration date was 7/31/2025.
3. Retired: this person is retiring soon or retired already with no intention of maintaining the designation - the designation is terminated. In this status, you are not eligible to use the designation on any media, platform, or in signatures.
Example: Abby is retiring and will not maintain the designation
4. Suspend/hold: this is for the CRP - the individual does not have an active membership, but their CRP expiration date has not arrived yet. In this status, you are not eligible to use the designation on any media, platform, or in signatures.
Example: Today is 1/1/2025. John Doe's membership expired 5/31/2024, but his CRP does not expire until 7/31/2025. To move back to certified, he must renew his membership.
Since John's membership is currently expired, his CRP is not valid and will remain in the suspended/hold status until he renews.
If he decides not to renew by 8/1/2025, he will move to expired status. If he renews his membership before his expiration date, he will move to certified status.
