Certification statuses and what they mean
1. Certified: the individual is in their current renewal cycle (GMS(T)), or the individual is in their current renewal cycle AND has an active membership (CRP).
Example: Today is 4/1/2025, the individual is a member, and their expiration date is 7/31/2025.
2. Expired: the individual did not remit their renewal fee before the expiration date (whether they have the required credits or not).
Example: Today is 9/1/2025 and the individual's expiration date was 7/31/2025.
3. Retired: this person is retiring soon or retired already with no intention of maintaining the designation - the designation is terminated
Example: Abby is retiring and will not maintain the designation
4. Suspend/hold: this is for the CRP - the individual does not have an active membership, but their CRP expiration date has not arrived yet.
Example: Today is 1/1/2025. John Doe's membership expired 5/31/2024, but his CRP does not expire until 7/31/2025. To move back to certified, he must renew his membership.
Since John's membership is currently expired, his CRP is not valid and will remain in the suspended/hold status until he renews.
If he decides not to renew by 8/1/2025, he will move to expired status. If he renews his membership before his expiration date, he will move to certified status.
